Hello! I am Swati Best, a relatively newly retired, optometrist, who spent my professional career trying to maximise visual potential using either spectacle or contact lenses.
It was a natural progression on retirement to move onto photography whereby using manipulating tools like shutter speed and aperture I have been able to look at the world through a camera lens with a rather more impressionist eye.
This has provoked some creativity in me that I had not realised that I was hungry for. It has enhanced my life in the way I see the world around me, and how I record details of both my family, travel, friends and other aspects of life. This allows me to both enjoy the moment and relish the moment in hindsight
I wish I had embraced this medium earlier, especially in the run up to my wedding, to my husband who is not of Indian origin. On a very limited budget, 42 years ago, we could not afford a photographer. The few images taken of that magical day, I can now use photo editing techniques to try and enhance. And I can relish the very precious times of that particular ceremony, and to enjoy retrospectively looking at the photos I have taken over the many, many years.
I strongly urge everyone to embrace their artistic style and to not be afraid
